Considerations when the source index itself as a target

Why

There are many layout options when several search results are delivered. Below are schematics and considerations of best practices when showing search results from both the internal product search and Theca ads.

Source: The site where the search originated

Target: site that can receive traffic. Can both the original source and external targets

Considerations

  1. If you get no hits from the local product search you could potentially move the Theca ads to the product results area. This would save real estate, especially in a mobile view.
  2. The relevance of "external targets" might be higher than source hits.
  3. Theca ads cannot be filtered, which means that if you have a filter bar this needs to be removed to not confuse the customer if you get no hits from the local product search.
  4. Do not set the number of hits (k parameter) too high since the results will be less relevant the more results you request.
  5. Below are the 3 most common cases to consider and how we recommend you solve them. Case 2 and 3 should not be mixed.
  • The search generates hits from the product search.
  • Theca search return hits from both source site and targets.

  • The search generates no hits from the product search.
